Information where it matters, when it matters.
A SCADA system is far more than a simple display screen. It is the nerve centre of an industrial installation: it centralises real-time data from field equipment, manages alarms, records historical data, enables remote interventions and provides decision-making tools for operators and production managers. Poorly designed supervision is a source of operational errors, missed alarms and costly production losses.
AUTOM Technologies designs SCADA and DCS systems that place the operator at the centre of the architecture. We apply ISA-101 (HMI design principles) and ISA-18.2 (alarm management) standards to deliver ergonomic, effective and safe human-machine interfaces.
Our SCADA/DCS approach
Multi-platform expertise
We develop and integrate SCADA systems on the main market platforms: AVEVA System Platform / InTouch, Siemens WinCC / WinCC Unified, PcVue (Arc Informatique), Ignition (Inductive Automation) and Panorama E2. Our experience covers both classic client-server architectures and modern web-based solutions accessible from any browser. This multi-platform expertise allows us to recommend the solution best suited to each site’s technical and budgetary constraints.
Historical data and reporting
Process data historisation is a key functionality for production monitoring, energy efficiency and regulatory compliance. We configure OSIsoft PI (now AVEVA PI System) historian databases, as well as the historians integrated into SCADA platforms, to record process variables with optimised compression. We develop custom reporting tools, KPI dashboards and export interfaces to client ERP systems (SAP, SAGE).
Alarm management and operator ergonomics
An alarm flood is one of the main risks in industrial supervision. We apply the ISA-18.2 methodology to rationalise alarm management: definition of priority levels, filtering of nuisance alarms, alarm shelving, alarm statistics and automated alarm management reporting. The operator interfaces are designed according to ISA-101 principles: optimised colour palette, clear information hierarchy, minimalist design favouring rapid anomaly detection.
Standards we apply
- ISA-101 — Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design principles for SCADA systems
- ISA-18.2 / IEC 62682 — Alarm management in industrial process sectors
- IEC 62541 (OPC-UA) — Unified standard for secure and interoperable data exchange
- NAMUR NE107 — Self-monitoring and diagnosis of field devices
- IEC 62443 — Security of supervision systems and SCADA communication networks
Representative project
Control room supervision — Nuclear research facility (CEA Cadarache)
Design and development of the process supervision system for a nuclear research installation: SCADA architecture on AVEVA System Platform, design of operator synoptic views in compliance with ISA-101, implementation of ISA-18.2 alarm management, OSIsoft PI historian integration and qualification documentation (FAT/SAT) in accordance with RCC-E nuclear norms.
Do you have a SCADA or supervision project?
Whether it involves designing a new supervision system, migrating a legacy platform or upgrading operator interfaces, our team brings the SCADA expertise and user experience knowledge your installation requires.
Why choose AUTOM Technologies for your SCADA/HMI project?
A SCADA or HMI project is only as good as the team behind it. AUTOM Technologies brings together software engineers certified on the major industrial platforms — AVEVA System Platform, WinCC Unified, PcVue and Ignition — with domain experts who understand the operational realities of the plant floor. We apply ISA-101 human factors principles to every screen design, ensuring operators can detect and respond to abnormal situations quickly and accurately. Our alarm management methodology, aligned with ISA-18.2, systematically reduces nuisance alarms and improves response times. We also integrate historian solutions such as OSIsoft PI for long-term data retention and KPI reporting. From single-site installations to multi-site, multi-language deployments, we deliver SCADA systems that are secure, maintainable and built to last.
