The backbone of industrial automation.
PLC programming is the cornerstone of every automated system. It is here — in the logic that governs sequences, regulates processes and manages safety — that reliability is built in. Whether it is a simple machine or a multi-axis distributed installation, the quality of PLC code directly determines the performance, maintainability and longevity of the system.
AUTOM Technologies’ engineers develop PLC programs compliant with IEC 61131-3, the international standard defining the five programming languages recognised by the profession: Ladder Diagram (LD), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), Instruction List (IL) and Sequential Function Chart (SFC / GRAFCET). This multi-language mastery allows us to choose the most appropriate approach for each type of process.
Our automation approach
Multi-manufacturer expertise
We work with the main PLC manufacturers on the market: Siemens (S7-300, S7-400, S7-1200, S7-1500, TIA Portal), Schneider Electric (Modicon M340, M580, Unity Pro / EcoStruxure), WAGO (e!COCKPIT, CODESYS) and Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley, Studio 5000). This technical independence allows us to recommend the platform best suited to each project’s constraints — without commercial bias.
Functional analysis and structured programming
Every automation project begins with a rigorous functional analysis phase: writing GEMMA (Guide for the Study of Automated Machine Modes of Operation), functional specifications, I/O list and P&ID interpretation. This structured approach avoids coding errors, simplifies validation and makes it easier for operating teams to take over the system. Our developments systematically include a library of reusable function blocks, inline code documentation and pre-formatted alarm management.
Safety and certified architectures
Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) require a specific approach: validated fail-safe PLCs, IEC 61511 (SIL 1 to SIL 3) methodology, safety loop documentation and FAT/SAT qualification procedures. We design and develop SIS architectures based on dedicated platforms (Siemens S7-F, Schneider Preventa, Pilz), with full safety case documentation for each project.
Standards we work with
- IEC 61131-3 — PLC programming languages: LD, ST, FBD, SFC, IL
- IEC 61511 — Safety Instrumented Systems (SIL 1 to SIL 3)
- ISO 13849 / EN 62061 — Safety of machinery and control systems
- GEMMA — Guide for studying operating modes of automated systems
- IEC 60068 / IP6x — Environmental qualification of equipment
Representative projects
Control system for a large-diameter tunnel boring machine (TELT-LTF)
Design and complete development of the control software for the TBM FEDERICA tunnel boring machine on the Lyon-Turin project. Siemens TIA Portal programming, multi-axis hydraulic and electric servo-system management, embedded operator HMIs, FAT on simulation bench.
SIS architecture for an Oil & Gas platform (ATEX / SIL 2)
Design and development of a Safety Instrumented System for an offshore production platform: independent safety PLC, ESD logic programming, SIL 2 certified loops, FAT/SAT qualification and complete functional safety documentation in accordance with IEC 61511.
Do you have an automation project?
Whether you need to develop a new control system, upgrade an existing installation or qualify a safety architecture, our team brings the technical expertise and methodological rigour your project requires.
Why choose AUTOM Technologies for your PLC automation project?
Choosing the right automation partner means more than selecting the right PLC. It means working with engineers who understand your process, your safety requirements and your long-term maintainability goals. AUTOM Technologies is vendor-independent, certified on the leading platforms — Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, WAGO CODESYS and Rockwell Studio 5000 — and experienced in delivering IEC 61131-3 compliant code that stands up to factory audits and operational life cycles of 20 years or more. Our structured programming approach, systematic documentation and rigorous FAT/SAT protocols give you full confidence in the reliability and correctness of every system we deliver, from a single machine controller to a plant-wide distributed control architecture.
